This is gonna sound stupid, but what set of skills do I need to learn in order to program a very basic messenger for Android?

I need an exclusive messenger app only for myself and a bunch of people.there is a very stupid reason behind this, don't ask.
I don't know anything about programming an android app and nothing about networking.
but if I want to learn programming with the goal of writing a messenger app( that uses internet like whatsapp and etc)
what should I start learning?

It is not hard you don't need to worry about networking etc. Use google's realtime database (firebase) it is free for 1 app. Basic android is enough with a few buttons textviews and edittexts. 1 week for programming 1 week for android 1 , 1 week for firebase and 1 week for messenger application. I like your approach.
