Why is it AN HTML?

Just a confusion with the English language and HTML really why is it said ‘An HTML’ and not ‘A HTML’ as to have an you have to have a vowel at the start of the word and HTML doesn’t

I think so using An before HTML except A, because
1. HTML is a not a proper word it's a short form of Hypertext Markup Language,
2. And rule says when word start with vowel sound that time An was used
3. It depends on the pronunciation of that word

I had the same argument with my English teacher back when the dinosaurs were dying out.

The letter H is pronounced "aitch", even though it's sound is "ha"

Because the correct prononciation of the letter's name starts with a vowel, we place "an" before H.

But we place "a" before HAPPY because we now use the sound of the letter, which is not a vowel
