what would you guys recommend for someone who's trying to develop and sharpen his website building skills . i need some help with projects and tutorials and things like that like codeacademy

you should be good enough to tackle the problems...think creatively ....!! and start your journey with html ....latter move to JavaScript ......

Start with HTML + CSS.
Then Javascript to animate your page.
Next should be PHP and SQL - to build services or JS frameworks (like jQuery).
