I once used this sometimes back.

Download and install WAMP, LAMP or MAMP on your local computer. Setup your database (I believe you know how). Google "sql excel addon" download it and follow instructions on how to install it in MS Excel.
After that,
You can easily connect excel to your localhost db server. You'll see list of databases on the right side which you can click to add data. The addon will automatically update your table as you're putting it in Excel.

Use the connect to external data functions in Excel. This allows connecting via standard drivers (ODBC) that will need to be first installed on the machine running Excel. Very simple.
