var name : String seems crazy redundant!

Question

Why on earth would you want to say:

var name : String

when you could just say:

String name

? There must be a reason.

As a cross platform mobile dev, (I write Android and iOS code every day) I will argue you are wrong until I am blue in the face. You want to talk redundant? Put 2 different "Settings" apps in your platforms or have 2 entirely different ways to uninstall an app or put out a camera api that is sooooo bad that it takes a 3rd party library wrapping it to make it usable and then take half a decade to fix it.

Can I get a real answer instead of a stupid snide remark?
