How to approach a new project

Hi guys, I'd like to know what you do when you start a new project.
In other words do you design the GUI, the Database before you start to actually code or do you add / modify GUI as you code?

I think the very first thing is to think it through. What is your project? What do you need? Than model it or something and if it was for me I'd start with the code, that's the most important part in my eyes
