Most probably no xp loss..
It varies according to level of player and challenges played etc etc..

no.. there isn't any change if you haven't started it

If you haven't started the challenge you xp won't change after it expires.
if you've started it and and opted out of it.. it would complete itself as remaining answers as wrong and then you'll loose challenge and xp

Draws do not grant any xp. They do, however, break a winning streak! So, if you are aiming for the 'Epic' badge - tough luck! :(
