Should i start JavaScript before starting HTML5 to understand API ? .I'm confused

yes in my opinion, thats what i did; i filled out my html course till i got to HTML5 and they told me i need to know the basics of javascript in order to understand API and how it works. People keep saying "HTML, CSS, then javascript" cause thats how websites are made, but they work with each other and the truth is API works with Javascript, so yes you need to understand Javascript to use it.
