Beginner - interactive 3d site

Question

I have a background in design and 3d compositing and would like to learn how to code a website that is utilising webgl. So I'm not even sure that is the right question, interactive 3d site is where id like to be. I have a good understanding of html and css but that's it. I have started with javascript but i thought I'd ask if this is the right place to start?
