i think it's totally normal for security context, i mean if you can view the source code in php you can send what you want in a page so you can do all thing in a website in php.
in exemple if you know a site is build you can assign yourself more privilege than you must have or just send more false information in the method used in a site so it's just mandatory to hide php source code like all langage in server side as ruby or nodejs or java
