Is Text-Based Game still a good idea?

I found an old game from 1987 named "The Lurking Horror". It use nothing but text, and with a lot of possibilities; players input some line of texts to move forward into the game I find this game brilliant, but for times like this where games focuses on graphics, etc, will this text-based game make a good project? As a beginner, some suggestions from experts will be highly appreciated

A real gamer will appreciate a good text based game rather than a beautiful graphics one but bad game based ^^ And it would be better practice to focus to game coding basis, than to self disperse by learning at same time the necessarly big basis of a GUI :P

because people nowadays appreciate graphic-based game like Final Fantasy, Skyrim or something like that. and I guess people be like "the hell man, a game with only texts? are we still in 1980's?" sorta like that :v

It'll be a long journey to learn and practice the game coding basis, but I guess that will be an interesting one. best of luck to everyone :)
