ofcourse it's better than the previous versions of Html and Xhtml, Html5 provides some of the newest features such as Canvas ( where you can paint) along with the capabilities to play audio and video and so much more.. I would definitely recommend you to check out the new features of Html5 and after reading that, I'm sure you'll be interested in learning.
