For example if I had 8 % 7.
7 goes into 8 once.
The remainder is 1:
8 - 7 = 1.

If I had 15 % 7.
7 goes into 15 twice.
The remainder is 1.
15 - 7 = 8.
8 - 7 = 1.

You can also think of it as floor division. (But keeping track of the remainder)
15 / 7 = 2.
Remainder: 1.
