Machine learning and data mining

what is best language for machine learning and data mining in application domain? matlab or R or python or ...?

it is up to your preferences. I would rank them as following.
MATLAB is the best for matrix algebra.
R is open source replica of MATLAB with its pro and con.
Python is powerful and elegant for everything. it can do the same as R and MATLAB (with help of numpy, scipy, matplotlib).
if you have freely access to all of them, then
-load, clean, complete missing etc in Python
-send data for computation to R (rpy2) or MATLAB. both have extensive libraries for data analysis.
-make a report in any of your choice.
(it's my humble opinion).
