Applications of Java other than Android?

Question

So I know that people use Java to code their Android apps, at this moment I'm a total newbie to both but I can't help wondering - what else can you do with Java? Where is it used besides Android? Or, what is the road ahead for those starting to learn Java?

Web apps, desktop apps. Java can be used everywhere.
