Does SVG work only in HTML 5 ????

Hey can anyone tell me if the SVG tag only works in HTML 5 or does it work in XHTML and older versions of html also.

I think it works just in HTML 5

It works in both CSS and HTML5. It can be used as a background image in CSS using the <img> tag. Read more on https://css-tricks.com/a-guide-on-svg-support-in-email/
