Java is said to be platform independent BUT the interpreter for each OS to tackle java byte code should be different.

we say java to be platform independent but the byte code is developed for each OS which can be manipulated by the interpreter of that particular OS only still we say it platform independent.WHY?

At least you don't have to change your code (except stuff like system properties...), only the jre to run it ;)
