@luka first of all you misspelled my name!! According to this site and also from my using experience I think Atom is best. It isn't #1 because it is new in this environment. https://www.codementor.io/mattgoldspink/best-text-editor-atom-sublime-vim-visual-studio-code-du10872i7

Oops... I just now realized I misread the question. I thought the question was for IDEs. Notepad++ is my favorite text editor on Windows and Sublime for Mac. Sublime on Windows is good as well. But I prefer Notepad++.

Hi @Ranjan - The CodeMentor article you referenced doesn't make a claim that Atom.io is #1 or the best in the roundup of 4 IDEs being reviewed. Rather than making the claim that Atom.io was the best text editor for web development, perhaps your intention was simply to suggest another very popular editor, which happens to be your personal favorite. As software developers, effective communication is a critical skill required for success in our profession. As passionate as you seem to be about Atom.io, I would be more interested in what you personally believe makes this editor reign supreme over all others. Also, have you had a chance to work with the other editors listed? If not, perhaps you could give them a try and explore whether or not you think Atom.io is still much better. If you have worked with the other editors, what are the top 2 or 3 features about Atom.io that make it a hands down preferred editor to consider?

I just confirmed that college students get the JetBrains products for free. https://www.jetbrains.com/student/

Also, if you like VIM, the JetBrains IDEs support plugins that enable the VIM keyboard settings for a very VIM like experience.

If you can afford it, PHPStorm (or WebStorm) by JetBrains.com is incredibly fantastic for their incredible build support, debugging capabilities, intellisense, integration with source control, refactoring of choice, goto declaration / references, and so on and so forth. I've been working with the products from this company for years and nothing has come close to the productivity gains developers get from the dev workflow that results from these IDEs. If you are a college student, you might be able to get a nice deal, maybe free. I can't remember. Check them out at www.jetbrains.com. Atom and Visual Studio Code are good options if paying for commercial licenses is not in your budget.
