What are they key languages required for developing a competitive website in the current setting?

I know that you can quickly get a basic understanding of html/css/JavaScript, and even add in jQuery. Of course, there are also server side languages such as SQL and PHP to work towards a way to communicate with a database. What is the best way to approach building a fully functional website in comparison to those main stream social media or interactive website engines that will construct a dynamic website based on its user's input with little understanding of developer knowledge?

HTML5 & CSS3 with much practice, use Borders, Padding, Google Fonts, Font Awesome, JavaScript Validation, PHP7 or 5 for backend, spend time practicing and learn from others code - This is in regards to the posters current work btw.

EDIT: Also Margins alongside Padding, Margin: 0 auto; in CSS3 to center page elements and page if put in body.

It's funny to look back on yourself as you continue to develop your skills and move from static web development with HTML and CSS to JavaScript. I can finally start to see all of your answers are right, but there is so much more. It never seems to truly end with the endless frameworks such as Bootstrap, Ruby on Rails, Angular JS, and so much more. Starting with the initial 3 core skills is a good place to start, maybe build your own database with SQL and communicate with PHP. Once you are there, you have become somewhat of a full stack web developer. I'm finding it is extremely important to learn Git and GitHub, or a similar repository database if you want to become a competitor in the job market. I would suggest finding expert-lead courses online to start building some guided experience in building web applications. Udemy has taught me alot to bring back to challenges in SoloLearn to continually challenge both myself and others.
