Java Python is currently bigger, but it will not remain that way because of how many flaws it has, especially in speed. Java, on the other hand is 100% portable and also surprisingly fast for an interpreted language. EDIT I find that everyone who said Python mentioned machine learning, but again, Python has a serious flaw that will do a great job of holding it back in that area. Machine learning is a quickly growing area in programming, it is growing much faster than computers themselves. This means that they will require more processing power that computers will be less and less capable of giving. When this happens, the obvious solution is, if a better computer isnā€™t an option, well that leaves a faster language as the only way to continue to grow. Where does this leave Python developers? Rushing to learn C and C++ so they can keep their jobs.

A quick look shows that Java has had more job postings but has been trending downwards of late. Python has remained fairly stable by comparison but dipped sharply around the end of last year, as did Java. From trends thus far it looks like Python... It wasn't mentioned but .Net and C# has been very popular of late and is quite similar to Java, so you might want to consider that...

Python. Future depends on Data science, IOT, Machine Learning, Big Data and Deep Learning. Python is KING in all these technologies.

Java is more robust than python, most employers need java developper's , however python is still growing with machine learning and IA.

Java I answered Java because it is the most powerful and portable form of programming. The NIO Stream classes, the generics, the lambda expression and a lot that I don't know makes it powerful sustainable. It owns the 1st position till 2 decades.I hope it will take this limit to 3 decades more. I know that python is good and easier to learn but companies want more security in their applications that can only be achieved my using Java.It is platforms independent and I surely challenge that to develop such a programming language will take more than 30 years. So best of luck for your career. Happy Coding!

That depends on the career to, for most web related and web development jobs java can boost your career. Python can advance your career if you are more into Data science. However my advice will be to learn both as that can give you a better upgradation to your career

If you are developing applications in your free time, Python is the best choice. If you are a professional, C++, C# and JavaSE or JavaEE should be your focus. If you are a braggart who just needs to say "I KNOW programming", QBasic should be enough. If you are a philantropist, develope using JavaME. If you want to commit suicide, just try to create something for Symbian using its own C++.
