How to disable button when its active?

Question

Say i have a button that adds a value to a javascript variable when i click it. The problem is when i click it if i hold it, it will just keep adding without stpping. How can i make it to where i can stop adding 1 after the click and after it adds one already? Hope you got all of that lol thanks for the help.
