First of all you must decide what languages so you want to study (for web programming or making windows apps or making smartphone apps). For example Java and C # are for making apps for smartphones. Php,javascript,python for web. C++ , Java , C# for making computer applications.

i'd admonish u to decide on what exactly u aspire to achieve with what interests u in programming...
If it is web development, u should start with HTML. HTML is like the basics to all that are inclined with programming. Get to know it quite alright, and then work on ur skills.
For app creations, get to master ur java and c# skills...
Consistent practise improves one's skills.

To start with HTML5, the best book is Head First HTML5 Programming: Building Web Apps with JavaScript by Eric Freeman, Elisabeth Freeman.
This book is really very good for beginners
