I made a program, but cant figure out what is wrong.

I would really appreciate if someone could explain the 'syntax error' I receive when I hit run. The code is meant to take an input word and output a string with the number values equivalent to the letters.

You're missing a comma between the 'v' and 'w' declarations ;)

A less error prone way to create that specific dictionary is
d={}
for i in range(26):
d[chr(ord('a')+i)]=i+1
