Well an animation video is a collection of frames that run at a certain FPS (frames per second). I'm not too expert but I have made some little animations and I can tell you that this is basically drawing each frame of your animation in the way it gives the impression that the object you are animating has own life (this is why it's called animation). Depending in what do you want to animate, it could be more easy or harder if you know the behavior of an object. To simplify it for you, imagine a person walking. Then what gives the sensation of movement in a person. The answer isn't just moving one leg after the other. It also is the arms movement, how the person flex his limbs and so on. Then when you understand that, you draw the frames of your walking person paying attetion to that elements to try your animation looks the most naturally as it can. The same happens with 3D animating. The difference is that you use X Y Z axis. In web I've seen people that uses the animation and transition attributes of CSS to animate each object of the animation. Usually they work the differents elements as a single element and then animate all like it's just one object.
