Is code easier by learning hands on and learn as you go or reading about terms and variables first? Then later using a computer

Still having trouble with understanding how to code

It really depends on you. Try different learning styles and use the one that helped you the most. I usually read about a topic and then I make a code about that topic.

I always read different things, new features and do's and don'ts about javascript. I also code everyday. What I want to say is that everyday read something and keep practicing will help you. One more advice always repeat what you have read earlier.

Don't read too much in the beginning. Try to understand one basic principle and than write your programm. If it works go on and implent different examples for each case. Soon your program is getting more complex and reminds you about what you already learned.
