Can You Stop DDOS Attacks?

I was just reading an article online about the DDOS attack that hit Github. I Understand that a DDOS attack in itself is not too much of an issue but could be used whilst hackers are doing something else. So my question is, is there any way of actually stopping a DDOS attack from happening in the first place?

It is not possible to permanently stop DDoS attacks, however it is possible to mitigate them to an extent. Attacks like SYN Floods are easily stoppable, but UDP and others are a different story. As previously stated, CloudFlare has a massive mitigation to DDoS, but if someone were to commit a DDoS attack that supercedes the mitigation cap that CloudFlare has on a website, it would work. However, it is very uncommon to find Botnets with a 15Tbps transfer speed. 😂

Can’t stop everything but you can stop most things if you got the right knowledge and know what you doing. With some decent easily-accessible learning sources, yull probably be able to stop all the little ddos attacks that skids just kinda let loose on your site (these are easy). Dig a lil bit more and you get more advanced protection methods against more complicated attacks.
