Let's start withĀ Big Data.
It isn't just the description of the data when it gets "big" (say terabytes/day for example).
It is more about how toĀ organizeĀ this data, how toĀ labelĀ different kinds of it (structured, unstructured, semi-structured, internal and external), whichĀ technologiesĀ one uses to store it and retrieve and many other facets...
Big DataĀ is a broader concept then just data that happens to be big.
I see it more as a new paradigm of collecting, storing, handling and extracting meaning from different kinds of data.
As forĀ Cloud Computing, it is the paradigm ofcomputing on the flyĀ as I like to envision it
The Internet of Things is simply "A network ofĀ InternetĀ connected objects able to collect and exchange data." It is commonly abbreviated as IoT.
The word "Internet of Things" has two main parts;Ā InternetĀ being the backbone of connectivity, andĀ ThingsĀ meaning objects / devices .
In a simple way to put it, You have "things" that sense and collect data and send it to the internet. This data can be accessible by other "things" too.
Let me give you a practical example. Lets imagine you have a "Smart air conditioning unit" in your home that is connected to the internet. (This is a "thing" connected to the internet) Now, imagine it's a hot summer day and you have left for home from your work. You would like your home to be cool enough by the time you enter it. So, When you leave from your office, you can remotely switch ON the air conditioning unit of your home using your mobile (another "Thing" connected to the internet). Technically, with internet, you can control your AC system from any part of the world as long as both the AC and your mobile are connected using the "Internet".
This is what IoT is.
I would suggest you to go with iot because it has provide more practical knowledge which is useful to work and selected in company because it's an trending option in industry

IOT, Cloud computingĀ has become an integral part of organizations today because of the benefits it offers to the digitally connected world so that all company having good opening related to AI, IOT,Ā IOT SecurityĀ and Cloud computing.
IOT - innovative idea- start up. Awesome work. Creative ideas worth.
Cloud - less work, almost no coding, late nights in production release, no outstanding skills required.

Cloud itself has become very important part of Internet of Things over the years.

These are two very different things. IOT generally refers to common appliances, tools, hardware with embedded sensors & processors that are connected to a network. Cloud computing involves the virtualization of computers, storage, databases, executables, etc. I am into cloud computing right now (good job opportunities). I use Amazon Web Services (AWS) - which I highly recommend. Google also offers cloud computing options. You can find excellent video courses on this and on IOT from the site Udemy.com. They offer excellent and very cheap courses...a great value. Good luck!

I think both matter because IOT must have cloud(firebase,i.e.) keep data. But first should learn Cloud Computing.
(my Opinion).

Stephen Brice Out of curiosity, have you been working with AWS Lambdas by any chance? If so, I'll post a follow up question to throw your way.

"Introduction to Internet of Things" of NPTEL (for Indian) mentored by IIT Kharagpur is one of the best course.

Jamal Al Kashiā Aman Sharma IoT == Internet of Things.
Generally, on the topic:
I recently met a startup founder who was putting smart power supplies on the internet. You want to know how much power your equipment is drawing, if it's out of phase, undervolted? Connect and ask it.
This isn't really new... it's just gaining traction / momentum. Consider Windows XP Embedded. It ran (still runs?) on office photocopiers, network storage, point of sale (POS) devices and so on. It is Windows -- it does have a desktop -- it's just embedded in a thing / a piece of equipment, and it's on LANs and the Internet.
Other things in the embedded-in-things arena:
Raspbery PI, Arduino, the CPU in the Apple power brick (whose only job is to power the computer) is as powerful as an early Mac.
All of this general processing power often finds itself on the Internet, controlling smart light bulbs, the June Intelligent Oven (has a quad-core cpu + 192-core gpu), etc.
The IPv6 address space is intended to be big enough for IoT; IPv4 definitely isn't.
Cory Doctorow's free ebook "Makers" tells a story about makers who leverage all the discarded CPU power in discarded children's toys; they were networked together like a little IoT.
This book has a bigger story + is for mature audiences (I mean this) so iif you want it you can Google it.

I would prefer cloud computing

I would like to suggest you to go with cloud. it has lot of opportunities to work on system security infrastructure and automation to deploy the code.

Mohit the coder ( M.S.D) .....Thanq buddy for the explaination..

Mohit Aggarwal no problem btw many here thinks cloud computing should be done but I tell you one thing that cloud computing is done basically with the big data hadoop technology which is trending too but that technology is some requirements like
first big data is problem because we have so much big data but not the required space to store that data the solution of this problem is hadoop technology which stores the big data in the clouds but to operate the big data hadoop software you have great command on Java with latest update if you know Java and confident on that then you can choose hadoop technology too but I personally think iot has more scope because of its interactivity

I would like to learn IOT.
Can anyone suggest better online or offline courses.

both have different approach and implementation methods.... both r good....it all depends upon the user how he/she treats it like

What are some better sites/books/courses to learn IOT and cloud computing?

just completed one of the course and published research on IoT. internet of things works with various layers, cloud computing is one of the important part of IoT. I will suggest IoT n cloud computing are enabling technologies to each other. if u r good at sensor interfacing, rf communication, networking, electronics circuit design, microcontroller based ckt, and firmware you must go with IOT. And then if u choose IoT, at certain stage u will realise that little knowledge of cloud also necessary. Go with IoT n be curious about Cloud.

Cloud computing should be the one you should learn first then after that you can learn IOT

Both has its own importance on their level where IOT will lead to make digital world and cloud computing is a part of that which helps in storing data on online servers .
In this way both has its own unique importance.
IOT has more scope than cloud computing.

IOT is better because this is new in IT field & this helps very much to making technology advance

i will start checking about that earlier...
