Ruby (+ROR) on windows?

Is it a bad idea to learn ruby if I use windows pc? Will I eventually have to move to linux?

I've read something about GEMs. It looks like the biggest problem is to install them and then get them to work.

no, Ruby and ROR work perfectly fine on windows. however people prefer to use linux because it matches the architecture of the dedicated servers that most websites run on.
