Equipment connected to internet which collects and saves data from outside world. It doesn't need to be a computer. It can be a welding machine, lawn mower or smart cars. Basically any device. It can use cloud to save how much fuel you have or what kind of gas were you using. Who was using it and what was its temperature. Your microwave could be connected to the internet and collects data about what kind of food you eat. These are collected using external sensors. Anyone can than use that data in the future. In 2020 there could be 25 billion devices connected to the internet. Thousands of new jobs. It's a great and important subject to take a look at when you think about the future.

IoT today is like putting a radio or TV on a fridge 30 years back. The difference is it'll catch on because marketers are smarter and have learned from past failure. They've discovered a way of making a product create its own dependency. Example: Joe: Camera on phone? WTF? Dev: Hey there's a generation of camera-phones coming. Better start writing apps for them. Big Corp: Hey, we can use Dev's idea for this approach. Consumer: Wait? When did I need a pic of my butt to verify my Facebook account? Social Engineering: Add: You need it, buy it! Rich Folk: Sure here's my credit card no. Corp: Hey that product is taking off. Let's get in early with our own spin. Add: Now even you poor and middle-class idiots can own a Thingy. Buy it. Prof: We can see the rise in prevalence of Thingy. The world is changing, let's all change the way we live. Media: The Thingy is so popular, everyone uses it. Buy it. Fomo's: We need it!!! Joe: So, Dave, I'll call you. Dave: You don't have a Thingy? Joe: Guess I'll get a Thingy. Joe's Kids: What? You never had it as a kid? How did you live? Joe: Well we... Er it was a different era.
