How do I use my knowledge in basic fundamentals of html and javascript to design a website of my own

To create a standard website, you need to learn more. Example HTML, CSS, Java, Javascript, SQL and PHP. But it depends on the website you are creating. Some you have to learn Python and other.

Websites are generally divide into two (2). Namely; Front End and Back End. Front End is the usual Graphic User Interface (GUI) we see or type in when a website is open. Back End communicate with the Front End and PC ( Storage) or Database.

HTML - you already knows it.
CSS - for styling or beautifying HTML text, form, etc.
Java - for creating API
SQL - for Database (storage)
PHP - Back End handler

With html you can create only basics of website like paragraphs, titles, forms... For web design you will need CSS (cascading style sheet) which allows you to do some "makeup" to your website
