What are the major differences between Java and C#? Java is like direct competition could that be why it's not supported by VS?

c# was developed as sort of a "fixed java", so there aren't many major differences other than c# fixing some stuff from java, while still being outclassed in usage as java runs on any OS

hopefully c# will run on many more systems in the future (but without gui capabilities), if .net core is successful
