Between Java and JS - the difference, as between the drum and the tympanic membrane.
Java - the language of desktop programming, ie, it writes programs for computers. Best for Android, Linux, also for embedded systems (such as microwaves, CNC machines).
JavaScript is the language of Web programming, i.e. for sites. It implements interactivity of design elements created in HTML + CSS (let's say that when the mouse hovers over an item the menu pops up so that something smoothly disappears, appears, changes position and size, etc.).
Programming in Java is much more complicated than HTML + CSS + JS + PHP.
Sites are often standard and standard (business card, online store, forum, blog ...). Once I wrote a set of flexible engines for different sites - and that's all, you can not write anything new, but only change the design and functionality (and the content) to the requirements of different customers.
