Why is Kotlin getting so much love?

Not really a recent thought, but i have seen in the last months that people familiar with java simply ditch it for Kotlin, calling it the resolve of all its predecesor problems. it is true? do people feel like Kotlin can really solve what some call problems of the most popular language of JVM? and how does Kotlin do that?

that makes some sense, but i feel like the only good thing that comes from big companies are programming languages/frameworks/technologies that require lots of documentation and support to be helpful
