Java script , helpme out please..

Question

var input1 = document.getElementById("number1").value;
var input2 = document.getElementById("number2").value;

document.write(input1 + input2);

this is the code considering that inputs are 5 and 5 then the output should be 10 but the actual output comes as 55.

please help me out what is wrong or missing here...

It's because you try to add two strings
