Practice with real data?

Now I am learning basics of SQL and have gotten to the point I am not sure I know what I have learned if I don't practice with real data or project. I want to test myself by working on a project and realizing my weakness. Here's where my question kicks in:

Where do you guys go and get a real data set so that you can practice on your own?

What did you do to work on a real project?

For instance, did you just go to a restaurant and offer them a free analysis of what customers order the most and order the least (it's this detailed because this is what I was going to do to get a real sense of data analysis haha).

There are usually many sites that offer real data with which you can interact or practice. Many sites do not keep records of their activities or are unwilling to allow others to participate.
