What do you think of the Internet of Things (IoT)? Good or Bad?
It is a system where electronic devices will be collecting data of their surroundings and sharing it on the internet. It is intelligence gathering on a global scale.

My opinion on the matter: We as a society are not ready for this type of technology. Controlling homes and devices remotely on smart phones etc,. 👌 Cool. But having devices around your house that gather intelligence and share it on the internet without your control! Very very dangerous!!! A criminals paradise!!!

I think it's a good thing. The advancement of AI, among other things, is really interesting, fun and exciting. By collecting constant streams of data like this, it only assists with the furthering of that technology, so in that regard, I do not think it's a bad thing. Obviously, there are the security and privacy implications of such things, but... most people don't care about that even when they say they care about that. "WHAT!!!?!?! MY PRIVACY IS IMPORTANT!!!! *goes and posts entire life to Facebook*".
What's your opinion on it?

I know this that advent of IOT has created/creating so much data that companies dont know how to utilize it well and are paying ton of money to experts to figure out how to handle it.
just like smart phones IOT stuffs will become integral part of our life.
i. e. health monitoring sensors, smart homes, home security & vigillance, we are already using many things unknowingly

I agree Morpheus, IOT, is where the big bucks are to be made. But the problem is maintaining data integrity and knowing how to extract the correct information from the data. Most times what we think we know is completely different to what the results are.
I used to work in crime intelligence. A group of us went on an intense month long course. During that period we analysed crime patterns, specifically as it applies to on what days of the week crimes are most likely to occur.
Common sense is that weekends are where most serious crimes take place. Starting on Friday, spiking on Saturday and then tapering off on Sunday. Common sense yes.
But the data showed something completely different.
What we found was that crimes spiked on Thursdays. With a major drop on Mondays. Nothing that was expected.
For years major operations were conducted over the weekends to try to reduce crime. With little effect. Because the day the operations should have been conducted should have started on Thursdays, for example.

On the negative side: terrorists will know the intimate details of every citizen whose country they wish to attack!

Morpheus, We pictured the future would have flying car's not refrigerator's that text me when I'm almost out of milk. I say let's leave smart homes behind for now and make our image of the future great again.
I have a smart coffee maker on my home network and was listening to it's conversations the other day and was shocked. I. had no idea a coffee maker had so much to say.
