Making the website go live?

How do you actually make your website go from locally stored to being able to search for it on the internet?

For the "being able to search for it on the Internet" part, if you don't use an existing hosting service, you will want to go to each search engine you want to be discoverable on and ask them to index and crawl your site. Here's a link to my favorite guide / intro to SEO:

yeah there is that i guess. i was thinking more along the lines of local server based broadcasting rather than going through an already existing site if that makes sense
