Why we call them bugs.

In September of 1945, Harvard university operators removed a moth fouling the guts of a primitive computer called the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator. They taped it to that day log's with the entry: "First actual case of bug being found." Mark II was an early computer used in the US Navy. When operators used it to perform calculations, it gave wrong results. To find out what was going wrong, they opened the computer and looked inside and they found a moth stuck inside it which had caused the malfunction.

So it was a moth... Next time I'll just tell my professor that I've found moths in his codes and just stare at him.

Is Harvard the first @ everything? You'd figure they wrote the book. 🤔 P.S. stay away from Harvard Extension School. They keep sending me e-mails, it's kind of sad. Yup, big business has found its way to the oldest University in the country. Imagine that? -bErN

when I was younger I learnt the history of Computing and old computers used to use valves in their technology and they ran hot and insects got stuck to them it wasn't just a moth it was everything flies spiders the lot and it did cause the valves to malfunction and the old computers had to be debugged they used to use various conditional switches because everything goes back to binary 0 and 1 on and off by the way what do you call a fly with no wings a walk old jokes thought it might make you smile thank you for your comments I do appreciate sometimes old dogs are useful lol
