Can computer science majors go into computer graphics/animation?

I am currently majoring in computer science but still deciding what to do with my degree. I have always been interested in animation and art. However, through some research, I am still unsure of computer animation is a part of computer science. Is it mostly for art majors? If I would like to this field, does this mean I have to take additional classes in say graphic design, art, etc to have a better chance in getting into this field?

Computer graphics theory is heavy in math, especially 3d graphics. So they fit in what computer science is about. I took a computer graphics class in my CS program (based on the awesome but old book Computer Graphics: Principles And Practice). You can specialize in that field at the Master's or PhD level.

Would that be mainly used for specializing in research?
