How to useful is encryption for hacking?

I would like to know how relevant is the topic of encryption to the field of hacking.

Basically, data travels on web mostly in encrypted form. Sensitive data always travel in encrypted form. So, if u want to have that data anyhow, u need to know data encryption and decryption so that u can use that data. So, cryptography is much essential for hacking.
