Laravel is a PHP framework, which has been used for quite some time now, but the best way would be to go with the combination of NodeJS and ExpressJS. They make highly scalable backend, with proper access to NoSQL DBMS like MongoDB. Therefore, they are used in both MEAN and MERN stack.

I was scrolling through the internships as I want to do one, most of them required django, nodejs, angular. So think PHP is currently a bit outdated. Most of them recommend Django over flask.
