Do you know PWA?

What do you think about progressive web applications? Is it the future/present about universal mobile applications?

Right! That is the main strength of PWA. You can use your app offline, and update the information later, when you are online. And with a manifest, you can install the app on your device, like other apps. I'm learning about it on Udemy.

I think that cache on you browser and make your browser had manifest file which make them run on offline state. serviceworker.js , an example library for implementation of PWA.
