notepad++ test run

I started learning basic html and want to use notepad++ to see how the code would look. I wrote my code and clicked "run" and chose internet explorer but the page shows the whole code. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. How do I use notepad++ to write a webpage and see the result?

Check whether all tags you have closed.

I figured it out :) I just needed to save the file as .html
