High size image like more than 2mb are preferable or not.

With Html5, you have the ability to target different type of devices/displays and serve adapted quality images ( responsive resolution like ):

But don't forgot to keep in mind that user experience will be more bad if he should wait too long to see your picture, than seing it quickly in lower resolution, as well as mobile connexion can have high cost in case of lot of data transmitted ^^

i thinks high size images are not prefered for website as they can take more time to load.
