Best OS for c/c++

In linux there are 25 distributions. Which one is recommended or preferred best. For using c/c++. Switching to linux from widows because windows still use Gcc 4.7.2 And linux use latest c18 standard. Please help. ~ swim ~

I was still using code:block beacuse of lack of knowledge . That's why i prefferred asking it up here . N thanks for your reply Martin Taylor . Yesterday only i configured gcc latest version not in any IDE but directly in command line In which ~ swim ~ helped me to do so. Now its working fine. 💗💗

What's the name of default compiler for c which microsoft uses?? I don't know about it. I tried updating Gcc but was unabke to as it shows this is the latest.

I use minGW gcc which i pluged in codeblocks ~ swim ~ N latest minGW gcc is 4.7.2
