When can I say "Im a programmer" "I know how to code in ..."?

When do you "officially" become a self taught programmer. When can I add it to my resume when getting a job (maybe not directly related to coding)?

You're capable of saying you're a good programmer when you can convert ideas into code. You can think of an idea and translate that into a working program. Not only does the program work but you know how to make it better, you know it's not perfect and there's always something to change. You know you're good when you produced multiple good projects and is capable of explaining why you used one data structure over another and this Library over that Library. Lastly, you know you're a good programmer when you realize that you don't in fact know everything and you're willing to go out of your way to learn something new.

Your resume should tell a story, a damn good one. You're going to have to prove to the employer that you're capable.

Thanks for the answer Don. My question arise a few days ago when I started my first Open Source mini project. I feel like I just discovered a brand and huge new world in programming. There are tons of new stuff (like tests, documentations, gits, working with several ppl at the same time) I never tought about doing them.
I tought I was at the top of the hill of mastering programming just to realize the Everst is next to it. At least now I know I just need to keep walking.
