You can start witj getting good knowledge of css so that you can make most of the changes through css

You can use CSS3 to make animations and transitions and use them accordingly

Start with desiging the html in such a manner that it would be easy toh edit all the header , sections , containers and footers accordingly that would make it easy to start your work with
