If you are new to programming, commited and study every day, 1-3 months. I learned all the basics and completed and understood this course after 65 hours. But you will always improve and learn more.

the best thing to learn any language, in my humble opinion is first grasp the basics so you can understand the documentation. then set yourself a project, a game, a calculator, a web application, whatever, as long as you keep at it and improving the projects, you will learn way faster than those who just read and practice the theory only. make a game and share it!

There's a good course on the website Coursera.com on which there's a python introduction. I suggest u take that.
