There is no perfect or best programming editor to use per se. There are pros and cons. And it's going to greatly depend on the programming language you are working with or the project you are working on. Here are a few suggestions: VB Code: Any language. Has a ton of plugins and themes. Fairly easy to setup. Lots of resources and tutorials out there. Plus, it's free. Atom: Similar to VB Code. It does feel lighter to use. It has a more simplistic or elegant look by default. It is easier to navigate. I personally use Atom for any project that I have. Quick tip: Pause any package/plugins you are not using. You'll know what I am talking about. Free. PyCharm: I would highly recommend PyCharm for any python projects you may have. It may feel heavy to run at first, but give it a week and it'll run smoother than ever. This has to do with its cache memory and accessing directories for different libraries. Community software Eclipse: This one has both its pros and cons. One thing I'll tell you tho: Avoid using it EXCEPT for Java programming. Eclipse is greatly suited for Java. Codeblocks: If you are just starting out with C or C++ programming, go for Codeblocks. It's a good beginner platform. That being said, you can start with any editor or IDE (look up the difference) out there. The above mentioned are popular and have worked well for me. Look into the visuals, the interface, the OS compatibility, the RAM requirements and so on and choose one to your liking. Good luck ahead!
