If you understand the program and how it calculates things, you will have a better understanding of the output of the program. Some understanding of programming is helpful in this case. ... There are some civil engineers who do mathematical modeling and optimization. For them programming is vert important

you can find a use for coding just about anywhere, you just need to look. All that planning could be made easier by coding yes, but its not neccissary.
